Online/Remote Applicants

A driver abstract provides a record of your personal driving history, maintained by Alberta Registries, and is available for 3, 5, or 10-year periods. It includes the current status of your operator’s licence, conviction information, demerit points, and suspensions. The abstract contains details such as:

  • Name, address, date of birth, height, weight, sex
  • Motor Vehicle Identification (MVID) number, operator licence number, issue and expiration dates
  • Licence class, current demerit points, suspended status, reinstatement conditions (if any)
  • List of violations (descriptions, demerit/merit points, and suspension terms)

Note: Driver’s licence details will not be displayed if the last issued card was an ID card or if it has expired. Driver’s abstracts do not include the date first licensed.

history report confirms the details of a driver’s licence from May 20, 2003, to the date the report is printed. It contains:

  • Driver’s licence number, full name, date of birth
  • Licence issue/expiry date, last licence service (renew, exchange, cancel, etc.)
  • Licence class, GDL status/exit date, condition codes
  • Driver’s licence history (renewals, reclasses, cancels, etc.)

Note: A history report does not confirm driver’s licence status (e.g., active, suspended) or certain restrictions/endorsements such as those due to suspensions or MELT endorsements.

standard confirmation letter is a signed document that confirms the issue date of your last card, the class of vehicle you can drive, any restrictions, and the licence expiry date.

If you are unable to visit an Alberta Registry office in person, you have the following options to obtain your driver abstract, history report, or standard confirmation letter.

Option 1: Online Order (Abstracts Only)

Alberta residents with an Alberta.ca account can order their driver abstract online. This service is only available for Alberta licence holders; drivers from other jurisdictions cannot access this service.
