Road Test Preparation and Vehicle Requirements

Review Transportation’s helpful guide to preparing for your road test here.

Providing Your Own Vehicle:
You will need to provide a vehicle for the road test. It can be your own, borrowed, or a rental. The vehicle must be properly insured, registered and meet all of the following safety standards:

  • All lights, horn, speedometer, brakes, steering, exhaust, and mirrors must be fully functional.
  • The windshield must offer an unobstructed view.
  • Tires should have safe tread, and rims must be in good condition.
  • Seats must be securely fastened with working seat belts.
  • The vehicle must have enough fuel to complete the road test.
  • If the vehicle is a rental, the rental agreement must show the name of the person taking the road test

Vehicle Safety: The driver examiner will assess the vehicle’s safety before the test begins. If the examiner deems the vehicle unsafe, the road test will be canceled, and all fees paid will be forfeited.Compliance with these safety standards is at the sole discretion of the driver examiner. Failure to meet these standards will result in the loss of all fees paid.
