Understanding License Suspensions & Reinstatements

Suspended drivers must meet certain reinstatement conditions before their licence can be reinstated. These conditions vary based on the type of suspension and they can be found on your Notice of Suspension. If you no longer have this Notice of Suspension you may attend our office to obtain a Suspension Verification form upon presenting a piece of identification.

Types of Suspensions and Fees:

  • Administrative Suspensions – These are suspensions imposed by Alberta Transporation in situations where there has been notification of a suspension in another province, failure to comply with specific conditions, medical reasons or a minor driving without consent.

Reinstatement Fee: $59.00 (incl GST)

  • Demerit Point Suspensions – Your drivers license will be suspended if you incur the maximum amount of allowed demerit points for your class of license.
  • Class 7 GDL, 5 GDL, 6 GDL – 8 demerits
  • All other classes – 15 demerits

Reinstatement Fee: $59.00 (incl GST)

  • Impaired Driving Suspensions – All suspensions involving alcohol, drugs, fatigue and prescription drugs fall under the Alberta IRS (Immediate Roadside Sanctions) program. These suspensions are specific to the individual and the circumstances of the suspension.

Reinstatement Fee: $209.00 (incl GST)
