Remote License/ID Card Renewal & Replacement

Option 1: Digital Licence/ID Card Renewal/Replacement

If you are unable to visit a registry office, you can renew your licence or ID card digitally through two options. If you have an Alberta.ca account, you may apply here for a driver’s licence renewal, or here for an ID card renewal.

Please Note:

  • Digital renewal is only available for renewals, not for duplicate services.
  • A driver’s licence that is currently suspended is ineligible for this service.
  • Licences or ID cards that have been expired for over 6 months are not eligible for this service.
  • If there have been changes to any demographic information on file, the licence is not eligible for this service.
  • If there are outstanding fines, the licence is not eligible for this service.

If you do not have an Alberta.ca account or prefer to apply directly with a registry agent, please refer to the information below.

Option 2: Renewal/Replacement via Remote Service

If you are temporarily out of the province or homebound due to medical conditions, you can apply for a Remote Renewal service to replace or renew your Alberta Driver’s Licence or ID Card. This service allows Alberta to issue a new licence or ID without requiring your physical presence at a registry office.

Please Note:

  • A driver’s licence that is currently suspended is ineligible for this service.
  • Licences or ID cards that have been expired for over 6 months require proof of Canadian entitlement with the application.
  • Our registry does not offer pick-up services.
  • Outstanding fines must be paid (this does not apply to ID cards). Payment can be made simultaneously with the renewal service.
