If you change your address, Alberta law requires you to update the address on your driver’s licence or ID card within 14 days of moving. This update must be done in person at the registry office. You will need to present your current driver’s licence. A temporary licence will be issued, and your new driver’s licence will be mailed to you within approximately 10 business days. If your driver’s licence has been lost, you will need to provide other forms of identification.
Acceptable Identification if Alberta Driver’s Licence is Lost:
- Birth Certificate
- Valid Passport
- Valid Firearms Card
- Permanent Residency/Citizenship Card
- Secure Indian Status Card
If you do not have any of the above documents, please contact one of our agents to discuss alternative solutions at 1-403-329-1193.

Note: If you have vehicles registered in your name in Alberta, you are also required to update the address on your vehicle registration(s), which incurs an additional fee.
