If you need to move an unregistered vehicle within Alberta or to another province you may purchase an In-Transit Permit. Before obtaining this permit, you must provide proof of valid insurance and details of the vehicle, including its make, year, and serial number.
Permits can be issued for the following purposes and durations:
- Move from point A to point B: 7 days
- Moving into or out of Alberta: 7 days
- Vehicle inspection: 7 days
- Salvage vehicles: 24 hours
- Mechanical servicing: 7 days
- Vehicle demonstration for purpose of selling: 7 days
- Towed vehicles: 7 days

Note: This note is not relevant to purchasing an In-Transit permit. Any person who holds valid identification can apply for an In-Transit, Canadian entitlement is not required.
